SCFE CO₂ Ginger: Essential Oil and Oleoresin for B2B Buyers

What supercritical CO₂ extraction means for formulators sourcing ginger.

For a formulator, an ingredient is only as good as its consistency and its origin story. Ginger is a demanding one: its character sits in both the volatile aroma you smell and the pungency you feel later. How you draw those compounds out decides what a buyer actually receives. In the Angami portfolio, ginger essential oil and oleoresin are produced by SCFE CO₂ extraction.

What supercritical CO₂ extraction is

SCFE stands for supercritical fluid extraction. Under the right pressure and temperature, carbon dioxide behaves as a fluid that can move through ground ginger and carry its aromatic compounds out with it. When the pressure is released, the CO₂ simply returns to gas and leaves the extract behind.

It is an extraction process, not a distillation. It is solvent-free and hexane-free, which matters to any buyer who has to account for what did, and did not, touch their ingredient.

Essential oil and oleoresin: two ingredients, two jobs

The two outputs are not interchangeable. Ginger essential oil captures the lighter, volatile top notes, the bright aroma that lifts a beverage or a confection. Oleoresin is more concentrated and carries both the volatile aroma and the non-volatile pungency, the warmth and bite associated with ginger.

For a food formulator, that means a choice: aroma-forward lift, deeper pungency, or a considered blend of the two. Both are intended as B2B ingredients for food flavouring and formulation work, not as finished consumer goods.

Formats built for formulators

Packaging is part of the specification. Alongside retail sizes of 50, 100 and 200 ml, the ginger oil and oleoresin are supplied in bulk aluminium formats of 1, 5 and 10 litres, so a manufacturer can order at the scale a production run actually needs.

  • Retail: 50 ml, 100 ml, 200 ml.
  • Bulk: 1 L, 5 L, 10 L in aluminium.

Sourcing and quality behind the bottle

The extract is only as good as the root. Ginger is responsibly sourced through farmer networks across Northeast India and processed at our own plant in Assam, so the step from raw material to finished ingredient stays in-house. Batches go through batch-level internal quality checks before dispatch, and everything is produced under FSSAI Lic. No. 10326999000102. You can read more on our quality page.
